More parts, And the colour scheame

I have ordered a pair of clear front indicators, and a windscreen seal. I am tryin to get hold of a set of arch spats without paying too much!! I want to try and get this build done for under £500 ;)

The colour scheame is gong to be mainly Signal Yellow, the lower 6" will be gloss black with the roof probably in black too. There's rust on every panel so it needs a comprehensive respray anyway. And You can only buy classic colours in celulose these days so Mars Red is not available...

GO!!!!

I spent yesterday evening trying to deciper the wiring mess but gave up.

As I had a little success last week using wd40 as fuel i decided to try again this week I tried engine degreaser put into the inlet elbow, there was a little prommise but i think the fuel was to heavy. WD40 flood filled into the inlet elbow and after a few fire and dies and a lot of cranking the engine finaly caught fully and reved up, I though it may be just on the wd40 but she kept running although she would not idle.

oil appears to be leaking readily from the cam cover as she was smoking badly from the back of the engine!!!

So that's brill!!!!

The missing pas pump turns out to be an issue, the original Mi16 drives a pump above the gearbox from a pully on the exhaust camshaft. there is no room to refit one. I am currently looking at electric PAS pumps.

No Go..

With the sump bolted up, cam cover sort of bolted down and a few other issue attendded to i flled it with oil.

I put the key in and gave it a twist... Brup brup brup.... Nowt... I checked all the plug leads were tight..

Brup brup briup...

Fitted a bung in the servo pipe... BBB
fitted a vacum line to the fule reg ..... BBB
Removed and cleand all the plugs ..... BBBBB
Checked for spark.. BBBB
Cured a fuel leak ... BBB
Fired in some WD40 .... BBB cajuggajuaga BB
and some more BB JugaJugaCaaaa BB
and then the battery was spent..

Arg :(

I then spent a small amount of time looking over the wiring and getting annoyed with Peugots lack of colour coding of the diagrams...

Findings.

I found a few odities whilst checking over the engine.

The PAS pump seems to be missing, I assume this was a Peugot one even though the rack is from a MK3 golf ( incidentaly fitted using spherical joints at the outer ends. ) So that will need to be found if there is not one on the spare engine.

The cam cover bolts were out, I put them back in ( did not check for a gasket so better do that once the engine runs otherwise oil will go everywhere!!! ) Unfortunatly one bolt snapped on re-insertion so I need to extract and replace that.

The Pipe to the brake servo is missing, I have some parts that I can use to make up this part but it's a little strange.

The Fule regulator was loose, I could only find one mounting bolt in the glove tray. I will need to salvage another from the spare engine along with the vacuum pipe which is also AWOL.

I had to replace a bit of fuel line, I think I will have to do this again as I don't think the pipe I used was high preasure pipe.

Mounting brackets for various componnets have been removed, these had been fabricated from ally for the build.

Wiring looks a bit shonkey in places so will need ful investigation. The lack of decent colour coded wiring diagrams does not help, I think Peugot used wire Numbers with the number printed but will have to check.

It's Like CSI!!!

Scrapped??

I may have said that the car was sent to the crusher along with our 1983 5dr FormelE

Well this may be true, or it may not................

The Mi16 ... 1st Research

Ok so I knew of the Mi16 engine. it was used in the Peugot 405 Mi16 and MI16 4x4..

I actualy remember lusting after the 405 Mi16 back in my teens after seeing one at the manchester motor show.

The engine was also used in the Citrone BX 19 GTi 16v.

The Engine code for these engines is XU9J4

The XU9 was an alloy blocked engine with seperate wet cylinder liners and a capacity of 1905cc. A later 2.0 16V was also made but this had a full iron block this was the XU10.

Engine control is via a Bosch Motronic.

I am currently tring to find a decent wiring diagram of the engine harness..

In the begining..

Well this blog sets out to chart the rebuild and restoration of a somewhat unusual car.

I had know of the existance of this MK1 Golf 3Dr for a number of years, and also that under the hood there was a 1.9 16V Peugot Mi16 engine.

So this blog will hopefully keep you up to date with progress on the diseciotn, resurection and rebuilding of this unusual car.

Problems noted so far.

Engine reportedly has a crank fault, and despite that having fitted up the sump and played for a while it won't even fire ( well not on the petrol being pumped anyway )

Body work has various issues, worst of which are..

Drivers windscreen pillar
Drivers wing top
Both sill rear ends
passenger rear arch.
The rest of the car is covered in scabs and surface rust.

Today I have replaced the crusty tailgate with a better item from my parts store. And despite repeatid efforts the engine will not fire. Fuel is pumping ( i know as there are a couple of leaks. And we have at least one spark. But no joy. I have had a splutter when putting wd40 dow the air intake but that's it.

I do have a spare engine that came with the car but that could be u/s too....
